Vintage ISSEY MIYAKE wool mini skirt
Vintage ISSEY MIYAKE wool mini skirt
Tailored mini skirt in dark navy wool twill with lots of details:
Single side opening
Dropped wide belt loops
Double-pleated front and darted back for a nice fit
Wide overlapping with a slit at back for free movement
2 small hole damage, mended by hand-darning: one near the hem at the back, the other inside of the back flap therefore is invisible.
Darning is a disappearing technique that uses a woven garment's own fibre with a needle and interweave it back to self, using the same weaving pattern, in this case, a twill. It's done by hand and takes long hours and requires good eyesight. The result is perfect and artful. In Japan and Asia, darning is traditionally used for repairing garments and textiles. Not many know how to do it any more. In Hong Kong, if lucky to find a Shifu who knows how to do darning, it costs hundreds of dollars per mm based on the hole size.
A garment can have a life over a hundred years and cherished by many generations. Also an excellent reference piece for fashion designers alike.
